DiFalco earns gold at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG — Pine Grove’s Christina DiFalco brought home Gold for Pine Grove at the PIAA Class AA State Track and Field Championship.
DiFalco ran a career-best time of 10:47.61, shaving eight seconds off her time when she earned the District XI crown a week earlier to claim the gold at the meet May 27 at Seth Grove Stadium on the campus of Shippensburg University.
The sophomore runner is no stranger to state medals, earning a silver at the PIAA Class A Cross Country Championships in the fall, and setting the best time in the state earlier this season.
Cardinal teammate McKayla Lally also came home with a bit of hardware, earning a bronze medal in the 800-meter run. Lally qualified for the finals on Friday, taking second place in her heat with a time of 2:18.18.
In Saturday’s finals, Lally was a bit faster, earning the third place medal with a time of 2:15.37. It was a drop as Lally came into the event ranked first in the state.
The area’s other bronze medalist was Upper Dauphin’s Brenden Miller, who brought home third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:28.50, shaving off a good two seconds off his time in the District III race, which he finished second in.
Tri-Valley runner Wayne Reilly, running for Minersville, also competed in the 3,200-meter run, finishing 13th place with a career-best time of 10:02.11, knocking off six seconds from his District XI gold-medal time.
The area’s only other medalist came through Minersville’s as Tri-Valley’s Brooke Adams was part of the Miners’ 4×800 relay squad. The teams qualified for Saturday’s finals with a time of 10:00.67, finishing sixth in their heat race on Friday.
The team vastly improved on Saturday, finishing eighth with a time of 9:44.08, marking the first medal Minersville won in the state track and field competition in school history.
Other competitors and their results are as follows:
100-meter hurdles: Pine Grove’s Maddie Frew, qualified for semifinals with fourth in heat race with a 15.94, finished sixth in semifinal race with a 15.82.
400-meter dash: Pine Grove’s McKayla Lally, finished seventh in heat race with a time of 1:00.69; Pine Grove’s Cameron Schollenberger, finished fifth in heat race with 51.88.
300-meter hurdles: Pine Grove’s Maddie Frew, finished fourth in heat race with a time of 47.43.
Discus throw: Upper Dauphin’s Victoria McGuire, finished 21st with her best throw being 102-6.
Javelin throw: Pine Grove’s Adrianna Tennis, finished 24th with her best throw being 106-7.
Triple jump: Pine Grove’s Michael Elo, finished 16th with his best jump being 41-8.75; Pine Grove’s Maddie Frew, finished 11th with her best jump being 34-11.25.
