MILLERSBURG – The borough will be a busy place this weekend as bicycle race enthusiasts will descend on Millersburg for the 10th Annual tour de Millersburg.
In commemoration of the 10th anniversary, Millersburg will host the 2016 PA State Championship Women’s Road Race.
“We are anticipating a great turnout of 225 people or more, but the weather looks iffy for Saturday and that could hurt us,” said Chris Dietz, organizer of the event. “So far we have more registrants than we did at this time last year.”
The Lorena F. Lemons Time Trial will begin Saturday, Aug. 6, at 7:30 a.m. The 8.6 mile time trial is a mostly flat, out and back course along the Susquehanna River north of town. The course starts at 300 Market St.
The 6th Annual Cataldo “Tommy” Muggio Memorial Criterium will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Start/Finish Line will be located at the intersection of Moore St. and Church St.
The road race is set for Sunday, Aug. 7, which will begin with the men’s pro 1, 2, 3, at 8 a.m.
Persons interested in racing can still register on Saturday. Walk-up registration will be available on Saturday. There will be a $10 fee for walk-up registration. Sunday registration is only for Women’s State Road Race Championship.
All event information including host housing/adopt-a-racer program and the tech manual can be found at http://www.tourdemillersburg.com.
Awards and prizes will be awarded after the road race on Sunday, except for the open TT which will be awarded at the crit start/finish line.
SRAM will be on site for bike repairs and for neutral support during the road race.
“We are looking forward to a great weekend of racing and community involvement,” said Dietz.
