Tri-Valley earns Halifax crown

HALIFAX – The Tri-Valley Lady Bulldogs are the 2016 Halifax Wildcats tournament champions, defeating host team Halifax in the semifinals and then Millersburg in the finals.
Tri-Valley made the finals by defeating host team Halifax 15-4 on the strength of an 18-hit attack against the Wildcats. Kat Sherry had a double among her three hits while seven other Bulldogs had two hits each in the win.

Jacey Roth got the win on the mound for Tri-Valley.
Millersburg only needed four innings to reach the tournament finals, scoring 11 runs in the fourth inning to beat Lancaster Mennonite 16-1.
Lacy Strait had a triple in her three hits for the Indian win, followed by Mariah Armor with three hits and three RBI, making it smooth sailing for Lindsay Casner on the mound.
In the finals, Tri-Valley jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and was paced by Madisyn Horn and Karlee Klinger with two-run doubles in the first inning.
Taryn Herb was the top hitter for Millersburg with a double.

PINE GROVE — The Cardinals held a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but couldn’t hold it as Salisbury scored three in the third inning to pick up the win in this non-league game, Pine Grove’s first loss of the season.
Kate Rittenbaugh and Jennifer Kaufman had two hits each for Pine Grove in the loss.

Taryn Herb cracked a home run and a triple for the Indians while McKenna Border and Jenna Hawthorne added triples while Lydia Troutman had two doubles.

HEGINS — Williams Valley remained undefeated in Schuylkill League play with this win over crosstown rival Tri-Valley on April 14.
Williams Valley got its offense in early, scoring four runs in the first two innings, giving winning pitcher Tianna Yanoscak a cushion to work from on the mound.
Rayanne Hawk had a home run in the game for Williams Valley in her four hits in the game, Caitlyn Pinchorski added three hits, including a double.
Wendy Header and Jacey Roth led Tri-Valley with two hits each while Karlee Klinger added a double. Kelsey Schwalm took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 4-3 on the year.

COAL TOWNSHIP — Pine Grove needed only three innings to defeat Lourdes April 15 and stay undefeated on the season and tied for the Schuylkill League Division I lead.
Kate Rittenbaugh paced the Lady Cardinals with three hits while Trish Kopenitz and Emily Hindman added two each, including a double. Pine Grove scored 10 runs in the first inning to put the game out of reach.

HEGINS — Capped up by Adrienne Kroznuskie’s second home run of the inning, Minersville scored nine runs in the sixth inning to shut out the Tri-Valley Bulldogs for their second loss of the season.
Tri-Valley managed only four hits in the game, singles by Jessica Underkoffler, Madisyn Horn, Kat Sherry and Jacey Roth, who took the loss on the mound for Tri-Valley

MANDATA — Grace Klinger and Lexi Weaver drove in five runs each as Upper Dauphin improved their record to 4-2 with this four-inning win, and dropped the Lady Eagles to 2-3.
Line Mountain could only record one hit in the game, a single by Michaela Haddock, but took advantage of several passed balls to advance their runners.
Weaver was the winning pitcher for the Trojans, coming within one out of a no-hitter.

MILLERSBURG — The Lady Indians scored in every inning for a 14-run, 16-hit offensive onslaught to come away with the victory in non-league action.
Ten different players hit safely for Millersburg in the five-inning win, led by Mariah Armor and Jaycee Straub with three hits each. Armor had two doubles and a triple her offensive output.
Lindsey Casner got the win on the mound, striking out four and not allowing any earned runs.
