Gratz Bank target of attempted robbery

The Valley View branch of the Gratz Bank was the target of an attempted burglary Thursday morning, March 17.

VALLEY VIEW – Someone was looking for the green or a pot of gold, but obviously not the legal way.

On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, at approximately 10 a.m. someone attempted to rob the Valley View branch of the Gratz Bank, 1625 West Main Street, just two months after an armed robbery that took place there on January 14.

Lime on the loose

Hegins Twp. Police investigated a truck rollover on Wednesday, March 16, at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Schwenks Road, about one mile south of Valley View. A large 10-wheel lime truck operated by Jeffrey Herb, 43, Sunbury, was traveling east on Schwenks Road and drove onto the left berm of the roadway while negotiating a curve. The operator lost control of the truck causing it to roll onto its right side blocking both travel lanes. The road was closed for approximately three hours. No injuries were reported. Police were assisted by Hegins Fire and Rescue, Sacramento Fire Company and Hegins Area Ambulance.

Residents complain about youth, damaged property and pigeons

TOWER CITY – Tower City residents are asked to call ‘911’ when a ‘life threatening emergency’ exists. Other- wise, to contact police for any other emergency or rea- son, dial 570-628-3792.

According to the Schuylkill County Communication Center, when contacted either way, the information will be passed on to the Tower City police; or if the Tower City police are not on duty, to the State Police.

UDA considers security raises

ELIZABETHVILLE — Officials at the Upper Dauphin Area School Dis- trict are finding it is getting harder and harder to find people willing to work security and handle other duties at athletic events and may soon increase salaries to find people to do the job.

At their board meeting March 8, members discussed the problem with athletic director Brent Bell.

Use of biosolids discussed at TV Watershed Association meeting

VALLEY VIEW – The Tri-Valley Watershed Association met Thurs- day, March 17, at 7 p.m. at Hegins-Hubley Water Authority Building, Valley View.

Roger Wetzel. Valley View, opened the meeting with some questions pertaining to biosol- ids from sewer treatment plants, which are brought into Natural Soil Products, located between Donald- son and Good Spring. They are then mixed with leaves and other natural materials. He asked what the regulations are pertaining to biosolids and whether or not wet- lands are involved. He expressed concerns about runoff and possible damage to wetlands. He asked if any studies were com- pleted regarding contaminants and stated that it was mixed with leaves from NY.

Luther S. Maurer

Luther Sunday Maurer, 101, of 407 Main Road Pitman, died Friday, March 18, at Mountain View Nursing and Rehab Center, Coal Township.

Luther was born in Helfenstein, on March 15, 1915, a son of the late Anna (Marlowe) and Charles Maurer.

He attended school in Helfenstein and received special training at the Philadelphia Ship Yard.

Robert L. Danner

Robert L. Danner, 88, of Pleasant View Road, Halifax died Friday, March 18 at Holy Spirit Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1927 the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Warfel) Danner.

He was the husband of Lillian (Enders) Danner.

He liked to travel, and play pinochle. He was a building contractor in Florida and farmed in Halifax.

Doris S. Barry

DorisSidneyBarry,93,formerlyof DonaldsonandFear- not, died Thursday, March 17 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Donaldson, July 16, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Annie Dinger Hepler.

Doris was a graduate of the former Frailey Township and Tremont High Schools. She had worked at Gold Mill’s, Pine Grove.
