Williamstown High grad named to hall of fame

LEBANON - Former Williamstown resident Edward C. Spittle Jr. was inducted into the Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on Monday, Nov. 12, at the Quality Inn.

Spittle was a three-sport athlete at the old Williamstown High School, playing football, basketball and baseball. He was an all-league selection in all three sports in the Twin Valley Conference his senior year.

Spittle started coaching Little League in the early to mid-1960s in Williamstown and captured several championships. He moved to Jonestown in 1969 and coached several Little League and Junior Legion teams to county and state championships.

Spittle continued his coaching career at the upper levels, coaching the Lebanon Valley College baseball team from 1985-90 and was an assistant coach with the LVC softball team from 2005-11.

Spittle is married to the former Oriana Keefer of Pine Grove and they have two children, Gregory and Kimberly; and four grandchildren, Mitchell, Emma, Hannah and Aryah.
