Vikes cruise to tri-meet wrestling win

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - William Girard (106), Tyler Deiter (120) and Billy Schaeffer (145) each earned two falls on the day as Williams Valley topped Schuylkill Haven 57-20 and Newport 45-33 on Thursday, Jan. 3 in a non-league tri-meet.

Brandon Bettinger (152), Kenny Carl (160), Ronnie Daub (170) and Trevor Martin (285) earned one pin apiece for the Vikings (9-3).

After starting 1-3 at Midd-West's Mustang Duals, Williams Valley has won eight straight dual meets.

Schuylkill Haven (1-6) fell to Newport 58-21. Jack Hower (170) and Nate Kramer (285) earned two wins for the Hurricanes, one fall and one decision apiece.

Tri-Valley places 3rd at Anthracite Duals

LANSFORD - Tri-Valley used a pair of one-point victories to go 4-1 and place third at Panther Valley's Anthracite Duals.

Along the way, the Dawgs (5-1) tied Panther Valley 39-39 and won 40-39 on Criterion H (most first points scored in matches wrestled).

In the third-place match, Tri-Valley edged Williams Valley 40-39. The Vikings trailed 40-36 before the final bout. At 106, Willy Girard topped Kyle Stephen 6-1, as Stephen prevented giving up bonus points.

Williams Valley was fourth with wins over Pius X 42-39 and Lehighton 39-36. The Vikes (11-6) also fell 34-33 to Palmerton and 56-19 to Penns Valley.

Penns Valley won the team title, with Palmerton taking second.

J.R. Rummel (18-1) and Trevor Martin (7-1) had 5-0 records for Williams Valley. Girard (18-4) went 4-1.

U. Dauphin goes 3-2 at E. Juniata Duals

MCALISTERVILLE - Coy Campbell, Cody Snyder (18-7) and Trey Campbell (21-5) had 5-0 days for Upper Dauphin at the East Juniata Duals.

The Trojans (11-8, 4-0 D-II) lost to Hershey 50-25 and Juniata 39-27. They defeated Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech 48-36, Sullivan County 45-33 and Tulpehocken 76-6. The CMVT dual counted in the Schuylkill League standings.

Conner Boyer (20-6) and David Miller (18-8) had 4-1 records for the day.

Col-Mon Vo-Tech went 1-4, with the lone win 60-16 over Tulpehocken. The Rams (5-11, 0-2) also fell to Sullivan County 47-31, Hershey 57-18 and Juniata 55-21.

Zach Raup (11-4), Troy Patterson (12-2) and Jordan Rainer (15-1) went 5-0 for CMVT. Dakota Olsen (13-2) had a 4-0 day.

Pine Grove places 4th at Canner Duals

BIGLERVILLE - Danny Diaz-Walton and Guy Zimmerman posted 5-0 records to help Pine Grove to a fourth-place finish at Biglerville's Canner Duals.

The Cardinals (5-6) went 2-2 in pool play, defeating Central York 50-27 and Gettysburg 35-33 but falling 45-28 to Biglerville and 36-27 to Carlisle. Spring-Grove topped the Cards 51-18 in the third-place dual.

Jared McCabe, Ryan Martin and Eli Brill had 4-1 records for Pine Grove.

ELIZABETHVILLE - Devon Hoffman (132), Cody Snyder (138), Joe Becker (170) and Trey Campbell (195) earned pins as the Trojans (8-6, 3-0) routed the Golden Bears (0-3, 0-1) in a Division II match.

Robert Wozniak (160) and Jonathan Deesing (285) earned falls for Mahanoy Area.

MANDATA - Robbie Moretz's major decision, Dalton Rode's decision and six forfeits lifted Halifax (6-3, 1-1) to a Tri-Valley League win.
