Upper Dauphin, Tri-Valley post consolation game wins

Local high school boys' basketball teams kicked off their winter sports season with tip-off tournaments and game play over the weekend and earlier this week. Below are some local scores from tourney and season openers.

Greenwood 49

U. Dauphin 44

ELIZABETHVILLE - Austin A. Weaver and Ian Buffington tallied 12 and 11 points respectively as the Trojans lost their Tri-Valley League opener.

Mac Ney netted 10 points for Upper Dauphin. Ryan Kerstetter led Greenwood with 18 points.

Shen. Valley 60

Pine Grove 44

SHENANDOAH - Nick Merva poured in 19 points, while newcomer Justin Alvarez added 14 as the Blue Devils pulled away in the second half for a 60-44 victory over Pine Grove in a non-league game Dec. 7.

Tri-Valley 36

Meadowbrook 34

COAL TOWNSHIP - Devin Masser scored five of his game high 12 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Bulldogs to victory in the consolation game of the Lourdes Tip-Off Tournament December 8.

Jaden Buchanan also scored eight points for Tri-Valley.

U. Dauphin 62

Lanc. Cty. Day 39

NEW SCHAEFFERSTOWN - Ian Buffington scored a game-high 14 points and Austin A. Weaver compiled 10 points and 15 rebounds as the Trojans won the consolation game of the Tulpehocken Tip-Off Tournament.

All-Tournament selection Mac Ney had eight of his nine points in a 23-12, first-quarter run as Upper Dauphin took the lead for good. Kane Bouchard added 10 rebounds for the Trojans, who led 36-20 at intermission.

E. Juniata 58

Line Mtn. 44

COCOLAMUS - Cole Rickert led Line Mountain with 12 points, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles fell to East Juniata in the title game of the East Juniata Tournament.

Nick Lorenz fired in 23 points to assist the Tigers to the win.

Susquenita 32

U. Dauphin 27

NEW SCHAEFFERTOWN - Tied at 18 at the end of the third quarter, the Blackhawks used a 14-9, fourth-quarter run to pull away for the victory in the Tulpenhocken Tip-Off Tournament.

Mac Ney led Upper Dauphin with 13 points,.

The Trojans faced Lancaster Country Day in the consolation game. Tulpehocken beat Lancaster Country Day 48-24 in the other first-round game.
