HOMETOWN - Tri-Valley used some seventh-inning heroics recently to stay near the front of the pack in Div. II.

Colin Maurer, Gavin Kline and Ty Waizenegger had key singles in a four-run outburst as the Dawgs fended off Marian 7-3.

The victory had kept Tri-Valley (7-4, 7-3 D-II) tied with Williams Valley (10-3, 7-3) in second place, while the loss halted a Marian (5-5, 5-5) charge that had the Colts within one game of second place. (The Vikes defeated Tri-Valley Monday. See related story, page 11.)

Peter Baddick and Mike Cataldo each had two hits for Marian, which scored two runs in the fourth inning to tie the contest at 3.

In the seventh, Hunter Bordner walked, Dalton Miller singled and Cale Bruso walked to load the bases with no out. Maurer's single plated the go-ahead run, but Miller was thrown out at the plate.

After an intentional walk to Hunter Herb, Kline delivered a two-run single. One out later, Waizenegger singled to make it 7-3.
