UDA sustains strength with wrestling victories

In Schuylkill League wrestling, several Upper Dauphin wins have enabled the Trojans to remain on top of Division II. Meanwhile, Pine Grove and Tri-Valley continue to battle with Blue Mountain in Division I standings, with the Bulldogs posting impressive wins against Line Mountain and at the 25-team tournament at Bedford on January 27-28. (See related story above.)
Line Mountain was scheduled to host the first round match for District team Duals on February 1. (Details of the duals were unavailable prior to print production.)

MAHANOY CITY - Ryan Martin (220), John Deibler (285), Dakota Daubert (126), Ryan Heim (132), Jared McCabe (138), Guy Zimmerman (145), Eli Brill (152) and Ty Lehman (160) had falls in a 10-bout win streak to start the match as the Cardinals cruised past the Bears in a non-league match.
Trevor Bender (195) added a fall for Pine Grove (13-2), while Jordan Renfrow (170) notched a pin for the Bears (3-7).

DUNCANNON - Joey Kaufman (285), Shane Liddick (138) and Chad Meko (145) posted decisions for Halifax (6-11) in a non-league loss to Susquenita.

HEGINS - Blake Bowman earned a technical fall and Ty Schoffstall received a forfeit in the final bout to lift Tri-Valley over Line Mountain 38-36 on January 24 in a non-league dual meet.
The swing bout came at 285 as a stalling point and an escape enabled Mason White to edge Anthony Peipher 4-3.
Sam Scheib and Lyle Troutman posted pins; Caleb Bordner earned a technical fall; Hunter Harner gained a major decision; and Evan Heffron won by decision as the Dawgs (9-2) won eight bouts.
Tri-Valley's match at North Schuylkill scheduled for January 25 has been postponed to Feb. 16.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Brock Snyder's fall, plus decisions by Devon Hoffman and David Miller, helped Upper Dauphin (16-1, 4-0 D-II) win a Schuylkill League Division II dual meet.
Kenny Eiler, Jack Hower, Connor Devlin and Nate Kramer notched falls for the Hurricanes (0-12, 0-3).

ELIZABETHVILLE - Upper Dauphin wrapped up Tri-Valley League play and took another step toward the Schuylkill League Division II championship by defeating Halifax 57-19 on January 19.
The Trojans (15-1, 3-0 D-II) took 10 bouts, with Coy Campbell (106), Devon Hoffman (120), Ethan Stiles (132), David Miller (138), J.P. Leitzel (170) and Joe Becker (182) pinning their opponents.
Zac Shope (152) earned a pin and Joey Kaufman (220) posted a 15-4 major decision over Brock Snyder for the Wildcats (6-10, 1-2).
Upper Dauphin holds a one-game lead over Panther Valley in the division standings but holds the tiebreaker by virtue of its 55-21 win over the Panthers on Jan. 4.
