Tri-Valley squad falls to the Tide

HEGINS - The Pottsville at Tri-Valley girls' volleyball match had a playoff feel to it.

Like most playoff contests, it ended in dramatic fashion.

Haley Drum's ace capped a Crimson Tide comeback October 8 from a two-set deficit, as Pottsville stayed unbeaten with a 22-25, 21-25, 25-12, 25-17, 16-14 victory over the Dawgs in matchup of Schuylkill League division leaders.

Taylor Troutman had 16 kills and 12 digs, and Haley Deibert compiled 29 assists and nine digs for Tri-Valley (12-2), who can clinch the Division III title with a win over Halifax on October 11.

PINE GROVE - Kayla Bressler compiled 17 assists and 10 aces as the Cardinals swept the Panthers 25-17, 25-18, 25-11 in a non-league match.

Samantha Bertasavage notched 10 kills and had four aces for Pine Grove (9-4), while Rachael Zimmerman tallied five kills.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Mackenzie McCutcheon collected seven kills and Ashley Unger added six kills as the Wildcats (8-4) downed the Red Raiders 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 in a non-league match.

TOWER CITY - Mackenzie O'Brien tallied 11 kills and a block, and Heidi Griffith dished out 21 assists and had three aces as the Miners swept the Vikings 25-21, 26-24, 25-16.

Devon Direnzo compiled three kills, three digs and two aces for Minersville (8-7).

Megan Ebersole collected five service points and nine digs for Williams Valley (4-10), while Olivia Ancheff had eight service points and Kaitlyn Rebuck tallied nine digs.

ELIZABETHVILLE - Taylor Troutman finished with 15 kills and nine digs to lead the Bulldogs past the Trojans 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 in a Division III match.

Tara Nahodil recorded 15 kills while Haley Deibert added 35 assists for division-leading Tri-Valley (12-1, 9-1 D-III).

For Upper Dauphin (4-9, 3-7 D-III), Kayla Bisignaro had 14 service points and eight assists; Whitni Rudisill added three kills and two blocks; and Cassie Lark contributed eight digs.

Match postponed

TOWER CITY - The Millersburg at Williams Valley match has been rescheduled for Oct. 22.

PINE GROVE - Sam Bertasavage had 19 kills to lead the Cardinals past the Golden Bears 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19 in Division II action.

Jaymaylyn Lapp added seven kills, and Kayla Bressler dished out 33 assists for the Cardinals (8-4, 7-3 D-II).

For Mahanoy Area (2-10, 2-8 D-II), Kellie Linkchorst had five service points, nine kills and 10 digs; Shaina Leshko tallied nine kills, one service point, five assists and four digs; Alyssa Hay chipped in 14 digs; and Mychaellah Lucas contributed six service points and six kills.

POTTSVILLE - Megan Curry amassed 18 assists, 10 digs, five kills and two aces as the Green Wave swept the Trojans 25-13, 25-10, 25-11 in a Division III-IV contest atop Lawton's Hill.

Samantha Pogash added 15 kills, two blocks and two digs for Nativity (8-2, 7-2 D-IV), while Jocelyn Holobetz had seven assists, seven digs, seven aces and three kills.

McKenzie Miller had nine service points and four kills for Upper Dauphin (4-8, 3-6 D-III).

HOMETOWN - Markykate Sherkness dominated at the net with 11 kills and hit four aces as Marian cruised past Williams Valley 25-6, 25-14, 25-5 in Division III-IV action.

Abby O'Donnell amassed 20 assists and 10 service aces for the Division IV-leading Fillies (9-0, 9-0 D-IV). Abby Stankiewitch pitched in with four kills; Sophie Myers had three kills and an ace; and Emily Pilla notched four aces and two kills.

Weatherly 0

WEATHERLY - Tara Nahodil had 14 kills and Haley Deibert dished out 29 assists to power Tri-Valley to a 25-12, 25-4, 25-10 win over Weatherly in a Division III-IV match.

The Division III-leading Dawgs improved to 11-1, 8-1 in league play.

Lindsay Douglas paced Weatherly (0-14, 0-9 D-IV) with three assists, two aces, two digs and a kill; Alexis Hartz registered one kill, two digs and one ace; and Kirsten Ursta checked in with five aces, one block, one kill and three digs.

MINERSVILLE - Amber Laudenslager had 10 kills and Ashley Unger added nine kills to lead Halifax past Minersville 18-25, 25-9, 24-26, 25-23, 15-8 in a Division III-IV match.

Catherine Amoriello tallied 36 assists and five kills for the Wildcats (7-4, 5-4 D-III).

For Minersville (6-7, 4-5 D-IV), Mackenzie O'Brien tallied nine kills and four blocks, while Meg Schwalm recorded 32 digs and two aces.

SHENANDOAH - Ahna Huss recorded seven kills, 17 digs, nine service points and seven aces to lead the Blue Devils to a 19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-10 Division III-IV crossover win over the Indians (2-9, 2-7 D-III).

Nicole Sacco contributed 14 assists and five blocks for Shenandoah Valley (8-4, 6-3 D-IV).

Taryn Herb collected seven kills and three blocks, while Amber Roach added 14 assists and three aces.

PINE GROVE - Visiting Pottsville rolled past Pine Grove 25-10, 25-6, 25-12 in a Schuylkill League Division I-II clash October 2.

Hannah Corbacio had 18 service points, 15 assists and three kills for the undefeated Crimson Tide (9-0, 9-0 D-I). Jill Toomey added 10 service points and nine digs; Sasha Thomas contributed two aces and 11 kills; Caren Moyer had seven service points and eight assists; and Haley Drum chipped in with seven kills and four digs.

Samantha Bertasavage had six kills for Pine Grove (7-4, 6-3 D-II), which fell one game behind Panther Valley in the Division II standings.
