Indians defeat Trojans in girls' battle

MILLERSBURG - Kayla Snyder scored a game-high 11 points as the Indians rallied 37-31 to capture the girls' championship of the WQLV Tournament.
Katie Schwenk and Krysta Wynn each scored 10 points for Upper Dauphin, which led 16-8 midway through the second quarter before Schwenk and senior forward Tori Cleveland got into foul trouble.
Millersburg scored the final six points of the second quarter, then outscored the Trojans 23-15 in the second half to claim the win.

MILLERSBURG - Freshman guard Rayanne Hawk scored a game-high 11 points in her first varsity start as the Vikings crushed Lincoln Leadership Academy in the consolation game of the WQLV Tournament.
Cassidy Pinchorski added 10 points and Hannah Nestor netted nine for Williams Valley, which shot 24-for-38 from the foul line and led 31-6 at intermission.

ORLANDO, Fla. - For at least one half, Oak Ridge (Calif.) found the remedy to Tri-Valley's run-and-gun style and post game.

Led by Ali Bettencourt's 18 points - all on 3-pointers - the Trojans dealt the Dawgs their first loss of the season, beating Tri-Valley 58-49 in the KSA Holiday Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday, Dec. 29.
Oak Ridge's 3-point shooting matched the balmy Florida weather as the Trojans connected on 12 triples, including four from Bettencourt in the decisive third-quarter run.
Tri-Valley took a 30-27 lead into halftime before the Trojans heated up from beyond the arc to surge ahead 52-42 early in the fourth quarter.
Tri-Valley sliced that deficit to 52-48 before Bettencourt nailed another trey to help ice the victory.
Tara Nahodil continued to dominate the post with a game-high 20 points for the Dawgs. Juli Weber added 13 points and Taylor Troutman contibuted 10 for Tri-Valley, which was slated to meet South Park from suburban Pittsburgh on Monday, Dec. 31 in the third-place game of the Yellow Bracket.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Tri-Valley started its trip to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on the right foot Friday, Dec. 28.
Tara Nahodil dropped a game-high 19 points as the Dawgs routed Sheldon Clark (Ky.) 62-41 in their opening contest at the KSA Events Holiday Tournament.
Juli Weber and Kylie Spickler added 10 points apiece, and Taylor Troutman and Brittany Smeltz tallied nine each for Tri-Valley.

PINE GROVE - Becky Evans took command, igniting her Pine Grove squad in the second half en route to a 58-47 win over Minersville in the girls' championship of the Cardinal Classic basketball tournament December 28. Evans finished with 24 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals.

PINE GROVE - Becky Evans scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the second half to lead the Cardinals to a comeback win over the Blue Eagles in the Cardinal Classic semifinals on December 27.
Evans also tallied five assists, five rebounds and five steals as Pine Grove overcame a 10-point, third-quarter deficit to defeat previously unbeaten Nazareth.

MILLERSBURG - Taylor Brown scored 13 points and McKenzie Miller followed with 12 to lead the Trojans to victory in the semifinals of the WQLV Holiday Tournament on December 27.

ELIZABETHVILLE - McKenzie Miller had a game-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Trojans used a big second quarter to pull away for a Tri-Valley League victory over the Eagles.
Miller scored nine of her points in the second as Upper Dauphin held a 21-9 scoring advantage in the quarter to take a 28-19 halftime lead.
Taylor Brown added 11 points in the game for the Trojans.
