Gettin' the boot

The annual Pennsylvania Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) state competition was held on Saturday June 14, 2014 at the Scotia Range in State College, Pennsylvania. There were 202 participants at this year's event.

Friedensburg YHEC Senior Team, the Predators consisting of Zack Butler, Jake Dinger, Justin Weller, Tyler Weller, and Cole Rumpf, coached by Wayne Dinger, earned first place overall team. They were awarded the traveling trophy, "the bronze boot" for their excellent performance. They will now represent Pennsylvania as the PA Gold Team at the International YHEC competition in Mansfield, PA July 20-25, 2014. Because of their achievement all five will have their registration to the national event paid in full by Pennsylvania YHEC.

Individually, Cole Rumpf took Top Gun in the senior division finishing first place overall. Jake Dinger placed third overall. Both received a bronze eagle statue, and a plaque. Cole also received a limited edition print, and Jake received a range finder.

The Friedensburg YHEC Predators top finish was a result of finishing first place in rifle, and muzzle loader, second place in shotgun and hunter responsibility exam, and third place in wildlife ID.

In the individual rifle event Cole Rumpf, Jake Dinger, and Tyler Weller finished first, second, and third respectively. In shotgun, Cole Rumpf earned first place. In the senior muzzle loader event Cole Rumpf finished first with a perfect score, and Jake Dinger took second.
