Division II remains tight for area softball teams

In Division II Schuylkill League softball action, Minersville, Tri-Valley and Williams Valley were battling for the top spot late last week.

Meanwhile, in Division I, Pine Grove was still undefeated and had a lead over Pottsville in the league standings.

Several games were washed out at the beginning of this week.

Tri-Valley 7

Marian 1

HEGINS - Juli Weber went 4-for-4, including a two-run home run, to pace Tri-Valley in a 7-1 win over Marian on Wednesday, April 24 in a Schuylkill League Division II-III crossover game.

Weber finished with three RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases.

Katie Rabuck collected 12 strikeouts while walking one in pitching a three-hitter.

Wms. Valley 9

Weatherly 0

TOWER CITY - Cassidy Pinchorski hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning and finished with three RBIs as the Vikings cruised past the Wreckers in a Division II-III crossover game.

Lacey Bixler and Kylie Doyle finished with two RBIs apiece for Williams Valley.

Freshman Tianna Yanoscak struck out 13 in a four-hit shutout to earn her first varsity win.

Pine Grove 15

Panther Valley 0

LANSFORD - Jeena Sidleck and Amanda Kemmerling each had two-run hits as the Cardinals thumped the Panthers in a four-inning, Division I game.

Sidleck's two-run single was part of a seven-run first inning, and Pine Grove poured it on with a five-run second inning that was highlighted by Kemmerling's double.

Winning pitcher Ethel Santai struck out 10 and allowed one hit.

MILLERSTOWN - Savannah Copson pitched the Eagles to a Tri-Valley League win over the Wildcats.
