ELIZABETHVILLE - Ethel Santai pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 14 to lead Pine Grove over Upper Dauphin 5-0 in a non-league softball game on March 30.
Santai also hit an RBI double in the first inning as the Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their season opener.
Hayley Wolff added a two-run single in the fourth inning to extend Pine Grove's lead.
The softball game marked the first since the passing of Pine Grove junior Samantha Lengel over the winter. To honor Lengel's memory, the Cardinals will wear patches on the sleeve of their uniforms, a decal on their batting helmets and wear hats with her name on them. Lengel's jersey will also hang in the dugout during games.
