Upper Dauphin County and Millersburg Little League teams both scored big runs against their opponents in District 24 action.

9-10-year-olds/ 10-11-year-olds

UDC 17

Orwigsburg 7

GRATZ - Owen Shoop went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer as Upper Dauphin County stayed undefeated with a Pool 1 victory over Orwigsburg.

Brady Evans added three hits and drove in four runs for UDC, which scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Nick Joseph and Brayden Shadle each had two hits, while Dawson Klinger collected four RBIs.

Connor Meisner and Ryan Grace had doubles for Orwigsburg.

Millersburg 14

U. Schuylkill 4

MILLERSBURG - Nick Lubinski and Mitchell Fulkrod each had three hits as Millersburg improved to 2-0 with a five-inning, Pool 2 win over Upper Schuylkill (0-2).

Kyle Long, Kyle Casner each added two hits for Millersburg, while Lubinski and Mason Engle had three RBIs. Casner pitched the first 1.2 innings, while Haydn Bixler went the final 3.1.

William Joyce and Jacob Possessky each had two hits for Upper Schuylkill, which committed six errors.

Millersburg 8

Pine Grove 2

PINE GROVE - Mason Engle hit a solo home run and Elijah Latshaw tripled as Millersburg defeated Pine Grove in a Pool 2 game.

Latshaw's triple led off the game for Millersburg. He added an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Kyle Long and Logan Schultz both added doubles for Millersburg.

Garrett Brandt led Pine Grove with two hits.


UDC 22

Ashland 1

ASHLAND - Jesse Engle and Zachary Smeltz were each 4-for-4 and Nathan Wise and Smeltz each blasted home runs as Upper Dauphin County clinched a berth in the 10-11-year-old semifinals with a four-inning rout of Ashland.

Smeltz slugged a grand slam in the third inning and finished with six RBIs, while Engle had a double and triple. Wise was 3-for-4 with a double, a three-run homer and six RBIs for Upper Dauphin, which has outscored its three opponents 62-3.

Hayden Frasch had a double for Ashland.

UDC 21

Sch. Haven 1

GRATZ - Nathan Wise was 2-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs as UDC routed Schuylkill Haven in a four-inning Pool 2 game.

Wise hit his grand slam in the fourth inning, while winning pitcher Mason Evans hit a two-run homer in UDC's seven-run third inning. Zachary Smeltz and Holden Stiely each went 3-for-5 as UDC collected 17 hits.

Jake Houtz had a pair of hits, including a double, for Schuylkill Haven.

UDC 19

Ashland 1

GRATZ - Jesse Engle paced an 18-hit attack with a three-run homer and an RBI double as UDC rolled past Ashland in the Pool 2 opener for both teams.

The District 24 9-10-year-old champs last year, Upper Dauphin scored three runs in the first, seven in the second and nine in the fourth.

Holden Stiely was 3-for-4 for UDC, while Nathan Wise, Mason Evans, Zachary Smeltz, Mikey Myers, Bronson Kelly and Bryce Herb each added two hits. Evans collected three RBIs, while Wise, Jacob Herman and Smeltz scored three times.

Wise and Stiely combined to hold Ashland to two hits. Averi Baney doubled and scored on Alex Zelwalk's single for Ashland's only run.
