MAHANOY CITY - Mahanoy Area's Bryan Miller poured in a career-high 24 points in his first varsity start as Mahanoy Area clinched the Division III title with a 57-44 Schuylkill League crossover victory over Williams Valley on January 31.

Miller made all six of his foul shots in the fourth frame as the Golden Bears (15-3, 10-0 D-III), a 54.3 percent foul-shooting team coming in, connected on 11-of-16 from the line in the quarter to finally subdue the Vikings (14-5, 8-3 D-II).

Dennis Jansen had 18 points for the Vikings, while Nick Rodichok came off the bench to score 11 points and Owen Daniel had seven points and ten rebounds. Williams Valley was without point guard Stephen Sedesse, who had the flu.

Tri-Valley 36

TOWER CITY - Steven Sedesse had a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds in the Vikings' Division I rout of the Bulldogs.

Sedesse hit five 3-pointer on the night, while Ben Rautzahn came off the bench to add 16 points for Williams Valley. Colin Harrison had 11.

Cale Bruso led Tri-Valley with 14 points.

PINE GROVE - Brett Kosciolek poured in a game 26 points as the Raiders qualified for the District 11 Class AAA playoffs with a Division I rout of the Cardinals.

Kosciolek scored 13 apiece in each half. Zach Wargula added 11 points for Tamaqua, which is in the district playoffs for the first time since 2003-04

Kobe D'Agostino had 13 points to lead Pine Grove.

Line Mtn. 60

Juniata 39

MANDATA - Coltin Hunsberger scored a team-high 13 points and Line Mountain moved within one victory of qualifying for the District 4 playoffs with a 60-39 Tri-Valley League boys basketball victory over Juniata on January 29.

Cole Rickert followed with 11 points, and Dillan Michael added 10 for the Eagles (10-7, 8-3 TVL), who need one victory in their final five games to earn the postseason berth.

JIM THORPE - Kobe D'Agostino scored seven of his game-high 17 points in the second quarter, helping the Cardinals to a Schuylkill League Division I victory over the Olympians.

Jacob Wolfe and Brett Kreiser tallied nine points apiece for Pine Grove.

Jordan McElmoyle and Jaquan Brown scored nine each for Jim Thorpe.

Susquenita 46

U. Dauphin 35

DUNCANNON - Ian Buffington scored a game-high 16 points but the Trojans fell to the Blackhawks in a non-league game.

Susquenita's Drew Knowles scored seven points in the Blackhawks' dominating overtime period.

Minersville 41

Wms. Valley 31

MINERSVILLE - Isaac Melochick sparked a big second-quarter run with six of his game-high 14 points as the Miners kept their District 11 playoff hopes alive with a Schuylkill League Division II win over the Vikes.

Minersville outscored Williams Valley 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 22-14 halftime lead and was never threatened. The Miners' defense held the Vikings without a double-digit scorer as Stephen Sedesse's eight points paced Williams Valley.
