Vincent T. McNamara Sr., 94, a resident of Thornwald Manor, Carlisle, formerly of Williamstown, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center with his family at his side.

Born in Minersville, Aug. 21, 1919, he was a son of the late Thomas V. and Rose Kavanaugh McNamara. Vince was a "Breaker Boy" in the Williamstown Colliery and later worked in the Williamstown Tunnel.

Vince was a graduate of the former Williamstown Catholic High School.

He was a World War II Army veteran of the Pacific Campaign and served with the 40th Infantry Division throughout the Philippines.

Vince retired as an engineer and fireman of the PRR, Conrail and Penn Central Railroads.

He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown; a post member of the Williamstown American Legion Post 239 and Williamstown VFW Post 6497. He was a lifetime honorary member of the International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a former manager with the Williamstown Little League Baseball. He also belonged to the former Brookside Pigeon Racing Club.

He was a lifetime fan of his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish and New York Yankees teams.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Tallon (Thomas), Rose Lenker (Earl), Mary Bettinger (Joseph) and Patricia Kelly (John).

Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Frances I. Foster McNamara; his children, Frances Pazur (Ronald), Joanne McNamara Bowman (Thomas), Dennis McNamara (Mary Lynn) and Vincent McNamara (Kathleen); nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas McNamara (Theresa).

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, Oct. 18 from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown, with the Rev. Paul Rothermel officiating. Interment with military honors was at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Williamstown American Legion, 123 W. Market St., Williamstown, PA 17098.
