Steven Confer Boyer, born July 7, 1947, to the late Irvin and Leah Confer Boyer, died Friday, June 7, 2013.

Steven was a Vietnam veteran who served three tours of duty consisting of 26 months in combat zones with the Navy and as a Navy Seabee.

After his honorable discharge, Steven served in various Pa. reserve units and as a surveyor in the Pa. Dept. of Mine and Minerals, DER and DEP. He started his own surveying business in 1982. In 1996, he became a disaster employee with FEMA and then PEMA until retiring in 2011.

A faithful member of Union Deposit United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday school and served as the disaster response coordinator until he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2011.

Steven enjoyed playing piano and organ, listening to bluegrass, hymns and to his sons' band. His hobbies included model railroads, reading books on the Civil War and history and researching family genealogy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, the Rev. Gail P. Boyer; a brother, W. Patric Caron Boyer, Cannonsburg; four sons, Dale (Tammy), Pottsville, Roger (Teresa), Millersburg, Patric (Mia), Schuylkill Haven, and Nathan (Corisa), Dallas, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Arielle, Sage, Kaia, Luke, Skyler, Caden, Jada, Evan and Melody; and nieces, Jennifer and Lisa Boyer.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12, in his church at 34 West Main St. in the Village of Union Deposit. Interment was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery following the service Wednesday.
