Samuel J. Laubenstein, 93, of Wayne Township, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Wayne Township, April 24, 1920, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Clara May Schaeffer Laubenstein.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Friedensburg. Sammy also belonged to Friedensburg Fish and Game for more than 50 years and Camp Robert.

He retired as an equipment operator in highway construction after being employed by multiple private contractors.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Sammy was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are three sons, Paul S. Laubenstein and wife, Theresa, Pine Grove, Donald L. Laubenstein and wife, Ellen, Pine Grove, James R. Laubenstein and wife, Debra, Harvey's Lake; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life funeral service was to be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Friedensburg, with pastors James Seifert and Carl Shankweiler co-officiating. A viewing was to be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Burial was to be at St. John's Union Cemetery, Friedensburg, following the service.
