Robert R. Long, 93, of Pine Grove, died Saturday, Jan. 14 at Tremont Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Pine Grove, Dec. 2, 1918, he was a son of the late Robert and Mabel Rehrer Long.
He was a 1936 graduate of Pine Grove High School and had been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, where he had previously served on the church council for many years.
Robert was a Navy veteran of World War II, having received the Pacific Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal and Presidential Unit Citation. He also served during the Korean Conflict.
Robert worked in retail sales and retired as owner/operator from Bob's Home and Auto, Pine Grove.
He was a member of the Destroyer Escort Association, a past commander of Pine Grove American Legion Post 374 and a life member of Pine Grove VFW Post 3234. He was a member of Pine Grove Masonic Lodge 409 F&AM and Grundsow Lodge and a former member of the Pine Grove Borough Council.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph R. Long, and a sister, Louise Keesey.
Surviving are his wife, Carrie E. Fritz Long, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on Nov. 27; two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Nola Long, Pine Grove, and Thomas and his wife, Linda Long, Westfield, N.J.; four grandchildren, Stacy Tremper, Tara Dubbs, Geoffrey Long and Melissa Long; three great-grandchildren, Marlea Tremper, Jessica Dubbs and Jenna Dubbs.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with SALM John Ziegler officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 222 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963, in his memory. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
