Richard C. "Dick" Bixler, 77, of Hillsgrove, formerly of Spring Glen, died Sunday, Jan. 13, with his family around him.

He was born January 3, 1936, in Valley View. He was the son of the late Rufus F. Bixler and Pearl M. (Schucker) Bixler.

He was drafted in the Army in 1958, serving in Germany and proud to do his duty.

Dick retired in 1997 from Palmer H. Reed Ford Motor Sales, Valley View, as an autobody tech. In 1998 he moved to Hillsgrove, Sullivan Co. where he continued his love of woodworking, hunting and fishing, watching wildlife, especially the bears that would come onto the porch.

He was a member of the Hillsgrove United Methodist Church. He attended Tri-Valley High School. He was a caregiver to his wife who has M.S.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, JuDene "Judy" Smeltz Bixler; son, Brad R. Bixler and his wife, Kathy, of Blandon; grandson, Dalton J. Bixler, Blandon; and a sister, Bernice Heim, Hegins.

A Celebration of Life will be from 1 to 3 p.m. January 27 at Hegins Township Ambulance Building, Valley View. Interment will be in St. Andrew's United Methodist Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Auer Cremation Services of Pennsylvania Inc.
