Rev. Ruth Mary Summy

Reverend Ruth Mary Shaak Summy, 81, Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, PA.

She was born, July 16, 1932, at home on the farm in Millbach, Millcreek Township, Lebanon County.

Ruth Mary was the youngest child of Thomas C. and Mary E. (Hoke) Shaak. She graduated from Millcreek Township High School in 1950. She worked at Publix Shirt Factory in Myerstown for 15 years. Ruth Mary then returned to school and graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary. She was Ordained as a Minister in 1968 and Pastored at Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Penryn until 1993. She then Pastored at St. Paul's in Millbach and her last charge was St. Paul's in Sacramento.

Ruth Mary was married to John H. Summy on January 1, 1969. They celebrated their 44th anniversary in 2013. To this union, they were blessed with two sons, Jonathan W. , married to Debra J. (Patches) Summy and Joseph T. Summy, who was killed in an accident in 1986. Ruth Mary was a member of Quentin United Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death, by her parents, sisters, Anna M. Shaak, Lucy R. Bennetch and a brother, Wilson W. Shaak.

Surviving in addition to her husband, son and daughter-in-law, are six grandchildren, Josiah, Matthew, Anna, Nathan, Lydia and Sarah Summy; a sister, Margaret DiGiacomo, Myerstown, PA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Shaak, Newmanstown, PA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held Monday, Aug. 12, at Quentin United Church of Christ, corner of Route 72 and Route 419. Interment was in the Millbach Cemetery.

Clauser Funeral Home, Inc., of Schaefferstown, handled her arrangements.
