Paul W. "Butch" Hepler, Sr., 85, formerly of Gowen City and for the last 3 years of Enola, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kay (Thomas) Hepler; the couple married August 21, 1965.

Born June 7, 1927 in Helfenstein, he was a son of the late Paul Q. and Jennie (Kramer) Hepler. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Navy. Paul will be remembered as a hard worker. He was a coal miner, construction worker doing road construction, and was employed as a factory worker. His last place of employment was the former D and E Associates in Shamokin where he worked until age 80.

Paul was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Helfenstein.

A veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post 575 of Valley View, the VFW Post 7654 of Ashland, the AMVETS formerly of Lavelle, the Charles R. Ware Association of New York and the Navy Club of Minersville. He also belonged to the Ashland Lodge #294 F&AM and was a life member of both the Shamokin Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge of Sunbury. He was also a life member of the East Cameron Twp. Fire Company of Gowen City and Independence Fire Company of Shamokin.

Also surviving are four children, Sabrina Girolami and her husband Joseph of Paxinos, Paula Kay Pittenger and her husband Stephen of Enola, Marjorie Hepler of Philadelphia and Paul W. Hepler, Jr. of Montgomery; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Marron of Virginia; one granddaughter, Shala Girolami of New York, two sisters, Martha Rutledge of Alabama and Rosaline Klauger and her husband Edward of Helfenstein; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Buscavage; one grandson, Nicholas Girolami; one brother, Lamar Hepler and one sister, Mary Artman.

Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, 1133 Ridge Rd, Klingerstown, with Rev. Jerry Schlegel officiating. Interment was on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Indian Town Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
