Nelson Oscar "Pinky" Wetzel

Nelson Oscar "Pinky" Wetzel, 102, of Pitman, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Kathryn (Heim) Wetzel. The couple married Saturday, July 20, 1940.

Born Saturday, March 25, 1911 in Pitman, he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Erdman) Wetzel.

He worked as a farmer, painter, coal miner, state employee and retired from Hatter Coal Company where he was employed as a truck driver.

He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational Church, Pitman and the Mahantango Fire Company.

Pinky enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening.

Surviving are three sons, Jackson Wetzel and his wife Judy, of Herndon, Roger Wetzel and his wife Barbara of Valley View and Bruce Wetzel of Pitman; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers Myles, Roy and Woodrow Wetzel.

A viewing was held on Monday, April 8, at St. Paul's E.C. Church Pitman, where the funeral followed with Pastor Todd Wolfe officiating. Interment was in Zion E.C. Cemetery, Pitman.
