Joseph T. Bowers Sr., 72, Pottsville, died Friday,Jan. 27, in Schuylkill Center with his family by his side.
Born in Pottsville, Sept. 18, 1939, he was the son of Robert and Elsie McSurdy Bowers.
Joseph was a graduate of Tri-Valley High School where he excelled in basketball.
He loved spending time with his family and especially his four grandchildren.
Joseph was employed at JDM as a supervisor, retiring in 2001. Previously he worked at Bashore Knitting Mill as a knitter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harry, Robert, Charles and Jackie Bowers; and sisters, Pearl Laubach, Ida Yeager and Audrey Bowers.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Sara Wetzel; sons, David C. Bowers, husband of Angie, Port Carbon, and Joseph T. Bowers Jr., husband of Stephanie, Minersville; daughter, Marie C. Bowers, at home; sister, Mae Bowers, Pottsville; grandchildren, Ciera M., Gabrielle A., Davin C. and Brianna J. Bowers; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with the Rev. Storm Hutchinson officiating. Interment was in the Red Church Cemetery, Orwigsburg. The family requests memorial contributions in Joseph's name be send to Operation Scarlet (a Shar-Pei rescue organization), P.O. Box 8463, Lancaster, PA 17604 or Hillside SPCA, Hillside Drive, Pottsville, PA 17901.
