Jane Louise Levan, 78, of Herndon, died Wednesday, Jan. 18.

She was born on November 14, 1933 to the late Paul and Irene Schrope of Valley View.

She graduated from Hegins Twp. High School in 1951 and received her bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1956. Jane taught Earth and Space Science at Line Mountain School District from 1960 to 1995. Prior to that she taught at York High School, Big Spring High School, and East Berlin. She was also a case worker in Maryland for a short time.

Jane was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Dalmatia, Division 125, noted as the first female member of that local organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Don A. Levan in 2009.

Surviving are her six children; Dr. Lori Levan of Kutztown; Anthony & Kathy Levan Sr. of Herndon; David & Christiana Levan of Herndon; Michal Kauffman of Lewisburg; Shaun Levan of Enola; and Donita Jo & Kyle Mundis of Enola. Jane has six grandchildren; Anthony Levan Jr., Rayann Vermilye, Chad and Nathan Levan, and Scott and Jacob Mundis. Jane is also survived by a brother, Paul Schrope Jr., of Harrisburg, and two sisters, Joan Warner of Newark, Delaware, and Elizabeth Stutzman of Mt. Gretna.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
