Hattie D. Schwartz, 93, of Schoolyard Square, Pine Grove, formerly of Joliett, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Thursday, April 15, 1920, in Barry Twp., a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Hattie D. Knorr Lucas.

She was a seamstress for numerous area garment factories prior to her retirement.

She was a member of Barry Salem United Methodist Church, Weishample.

She was a lifetime member of the Joliett Fire Company and the Tower City Moose Lodge and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tower City Moose Lodge.

Hattie enjoyed working on puzzles.

Her husband, Alvin J. Schwartz, Sr. passed away in 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Albert J. Schwartz; a daughter, Joan Lowthert; two grandsons, Robert Kimmel and James Kimmel; two great-grandsons, Daniel Barry and Ray Bixler; and a great-great-grandson, Brett Gibson.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph E. Schwartz and his wife Mary Jean of Dagwood, DE and Alvin J. Schwartz, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Good Spring; three daughters, Caroline H. Hoffman of Tremont, Nancy L. Bixler and her husband Dale of Fearnot, and Anna M. Madden and her husband Patrick of Liverpool; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and seventeen great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, Jan. 31, with Rev. John Wallace officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Weishample.
