George M. “Yut” Garber Sr. 84, of Greenfield Street, Williamstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, at his home.
Born in Williamstown on April 5, 1925, he was a son of the late Michael and Justina Suchar Garber.
George was a World War II Marine veteran. He retired in 1990 from the Department of Interior as a federal mine inspector.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Williamstown; Knights of Columbus, Lykens; Williamstown American Legion; Williamstown Liberty Hose Company No. 1; Gratz VFW; and the Tower City Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Schell Garber; a son, George M. Garber Jr., and his wife, Brenda, Elizabethville; a daughter, Gwen M. Davis, and her husband, Paul, Finleyville; a brother, Michael J. Garber, and his wife, Jean, Williamstown; six grandchildren, Richard and John Garber, April James, Phillip, Sarah and Aaron Davis; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Feb. 8, from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown, with the Rev. C. Anthony Miller as celebrant. Interment with military honors was in the parish cemetery.
