Fred B. Zerbe, 80, of Pine Grove, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his home.
Born in Beckville, April 5, 1933, he was preceded in death by his father, Freddie A. Zerbe, his mother, Margaret L. Neidlinger Umbenhen and his stepfather, Harvey Stump, who raised him.
He was a member of St. Peter's U.C.C. Church, Pine Grove.
Fred was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the HQ 5th Infantry Division, associated with the 121st Transportation Truck Co. of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was a member of the Pine Grove American Legion Post No. 374.
Fred worked as a body and fender technician for Al Mengel Auto Body in Schuylkill Haven and then for Heinbach Auto Works in Pine Grove until he retired in 1989 after being employed for more than 37 years.
Fred was a member of the Pine Grove Masonic Lodge No. 409 F&AM, the Harrisburg Consistory and the Pine Grove Democratic Club.
He loved hunting, fishing, bowling and camping.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dolores A. Fidler Zerbe; three daughters, Barbara Anderson, Pine Grove, Joanne, wife of Richard Hill, Delaware, Diane, wife of Brian Tobin, Pine Grove; four grandchildren, Jill Luscombe, Bobbi Jo Haller, Bradley Tobin and April Warner; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were scheduled to be held at noon Wednesday, April 10 at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Raymond Hurst officiating. There was a Masonic service at 11:45 a.m. Interment followed in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Pine Grove Masonic Lodge, 23 Oak Grove Road, Pine Grove, PA 17963, in his memory.
