Donald Franklin Geist, age 82, of 225 E. Main Street, Hegins, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at The Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lititz.

He was born on Tuesday, May 20, 1930, in Hegins, a son of the late Guy and Beulah Wiest Geist.

He was a 1948 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School.

He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

He was an owner of the former Valley Home Center, Hegins.

He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.

He was also a member of American Legion Post 575, Valley View, and the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens.

Donald enjoyed tinkering in his garage and was widely known for his ability to repair things.

His wife, Lucille M. (Updegrave) Geist, passed away in 2009.

He is survived by a son, William D. Geist and his wife Robyn of Reading; a daughter, LuAnn M. Carpenter and her husband Gary of Ephrata; a grandson, David G. Carpenter of Lewisberry; four granddaughters, Amy L. Lisk of Downingtown, Angela M. Geist of Hegins, Kristi L. Duffy of Blandon, and Mandy L. Bell of Lititz; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Paul Geist of Hegins; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Friday, Feb. 1, with Rev. Duane Bardo and Rev. Donald Morgan officiating.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
