Corrine E. Wolfgang died on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at the Manor at the Susquehanna Village in Millersburg, PA. She was born in Fearnot on February 17, 1925 to Earl and Hulda (Dieter) Mayer, Sr. After her mother passed away, Corrine came to live with Jay and Ida Phillips of Klingerstown who lovingly raised Corrine alongside their son, Lee, who she truly loved as a brother.
Corrine was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Stutzman of Valley View and a brother, Earl Mayer, Jr. She is survived by a brother, Russell Schade of Valley View; and a sister, Gloria Stoudt of Allentown. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Robert Mayer and a step-sister, Mary Stehr. She is survived by half-sisters, Violet Harris of Dornsife and Joyce Wolfe of Berrysburg.
She excelled in school and graduated from the former Hegins High School. In 1942 Corrine married the true love of her life, George R. Wolfgang of Rough and Ready. George died on October 17, 1988. Corrine and George spent most of their married life farming near Hebe. They raised a family of five children, Dale George Wolfgang of Millersburg married to Leda; Mary Henrie of Danville married to Charles; James Wolfgang of Klingerstown married to Margie; Eric Wolfgang of Mountaintop married to Catherine; and Jill Wolfgang of Dunedin, New Zealand married to Malcolm MacDonald. Corrine will be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren, Michele (Wolfgang) Hutchins of Millersburg, Jason Wolfgang of Pitman, Jonathan Wolfgang of Export, Kim (Henrie) Shimp of Danville, Carl Henrie of Danville, and Abby and William Wolfgang of Mountaintop. Six great-grandchildren will also miss Corrine who brought them many smiles and hugs.
Corrine was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Klingerstown where for many years she taught Sunday school. Corrine was an avid reader who always enjoyed learning about new subjects. She also took great joy from her garden, birdwatching and simply spending time with her family.
A viewing was held on Monday, Feb. 4 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Klingerstown. Burial was at St. Michaels Cemetery.
