Carl G. Martz, 78, of 339 Smucker Hill Road, Lykens, died Sunday, Jan. 8 at Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1933 in Klingerstown, the son of the late Gurney G. and Vera M. (Klinger) Martz.

He was the husband of 57 years of Mary (Hoke) Martz.

He was a member of St. Peter's U.C.C. Lykens, where he served as the superintendent of the Sunday School for many years, served as president of the consistory and joint consistory, and sang in the church choir. His passion was baseball and he was instrumental in founding the little league and teener league of Elizabethville, and the American Legion League of UDA.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Steven Martz and his wife Savannah of Salisbury, NC, son Randy Martz and his wife Paula of East Alton, IL, daughter Tina and her husband Norman Basso of York, PA, son David Martz and his wife Susan of Millersburg, son Dennis Martz and his wife Tammy of Halifax, sisters Mae Mattern of Valley View and Blanche Harner of Sacramento, 16 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother Harlan Martz.

Services were held Friday, Jan. 13, at St. Peter's UCC, Lykens. Burial was in the church cemetery.
