Carl D. Ney, 89, of Valley View, died on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 at Manor Care North in Williamsport.
He was born Nov. 25,1923, one of ten children to the late Arthur and Gertrude Ney.
He grew up during the depression. He joined the Army in 1943 and served in several European campaigns as an anti-aircraft gunner. After returning home from the war, he went to work as a coal miner. After several years of mining he opened his coal mine. He later went on to own and operate the Ney/Lehman Coal Company in Good Spring.
He enjoyed hunting and shooting trap. He really loved riding and working on his motorcycles. Later in life he enjoyed working in his workshop making all kinds of little inventions.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lois (2010); his daughter, Linda (2011); and two brothers, Vere and Warren Ney.
He is survived by his son, Carl S. Ney and wife Donna of Montoursville; and stepdaughter, Virginia Wiest of Gratz. He had three grandsons, Matthew and Douglas Ney and Cristopher Holdeman; also two great-grandsons, Ethan Ney and Andrew Holdeman; and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Ney.
Surviving sisters are Rita Smith, Peggy DiGuiseppe, Anna Mae Roof, and Jeannette Klinger. Surviving brothers are Jay, Ray and Larry.
Services were held at Buffington/Reed Valley View, Friday, Aug. 23, 2013.
