Bernice R. Cowan, 89, of Market Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Manor of the Susquehanna Village.

Born in Williamstown, May 25, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Ida Schoffstall Row.

Bernice was a life long resident of Williamstown, a graduate of the former Williamstown High School. She had worked in the local dress factory in Williamstown. She was also the former Secretary/Treasurer of the Fairview Cemetery Association.

She was an active member of the Evangelical Congregational Church, Williamstown.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Edgar G. Cowan, Jr., 2001; a brother, Weldon Schoffstall.

Surviving are two sons, Edgar G. Cowan III, Tower City and Richard E. Cowan, Sr., Halifax; one sister, Elva Row Pratt, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Eric, Richie, Shawn and Sara Cowan; a sister, Elva Row Pratt, and a brother, Herman Elwood Row, Delaware.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. from Evangelical Congregational Church, 332 W. Market St., Williamstown with Pastor Brian Smith, followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship in the church social hall. Private burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery.
