Alfred W Burkle, 83, Pine Grove Twp., died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on Sunday, Jan. 18, 1931, in Philadelphia, a son of the late John P. Burkle and Ella May Swan Burkle.

He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was a baker at Boulevard Baking Company, Philadelphia, prior his retirement. After retirement he worked at Anthony's Feed Mill, Strausstown and Berger's Supermarket, Pine Grove.

He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.

He was also a member of the Strausstown Rod and Gun Club.

Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by six siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Klara K. Gruber Burkle, to whom he was married for 56 years.

He is also survived by three sons, Wiliam F. Thesing and his wife Helga of Willow Grove, Ronald T. Burkle and his wife Valerie of Skippack, and Stephen A. Burkle and his wife Linda of Pine Grove; a daughter, Andrea K. Knoll and her husband Randall of Pine Grove; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a brother, William C. Burkle of Demming, NM; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Richard Schoenleber officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
